Arenal Volcano Hike

Our adventure will start at the Arenal Park 1968 Volcano Views and Lava Trails, with an approximate distance of 3km, which include secondary forest vegetation. One of the best ways to be able to observe the Arenal Volcano is from this point, while walking we will have the opportunity to observe a variety of plants, wildlife, volcanic rock formations and the Arenal Lake. Actually, it is a very historic hike to learn about the Arenal colossus which directly influences the local economy and culture.

Pickup and transfer

We will stop for all group members at their respective hotels/meeting points at the designated time. This trip usually takes between 45 minutes to 1:30hrs.

Arenal 1968 Volcano View and Lava Trails

This is the park where we hike around the area permitted by the authorities. The trail is approximately 3 km of uneven and steep terrain with an approximate duration of 2 hours.

This trip is as...
This trip is as advertised in terms of difficulty . Our hike was a bit shorter than in the description. Guide was very knowledgeable and did an amazing job of spotting wildlife. He was very good about taking photos through his scope leaving us with much better photos than we could have taken. He set a good pace, accommodating the different fitness levels. He answered all questions in a clear and helpful way. You need to do this hike with a guide: alone we’d never have seen a small bit of what he showed. The only drawback: there is a lovely cafe with amazing views of the volcano close to the parking lot and we didn’t stop. Twenty minutes for coffee there would have been great.

Our guide was incredible!...
Our guide was incredible! She was so friendly and very knowledgeable. I think for excursions like this it’s always better to go with a guide especially if you’re solo. We learned about the volcano and got to see some incredible view points. Hike is pretty much all rocky and on a steep incline but very doable!!

Our guide was Ray, he was...
Our guide was Ray, he was amazing. I went with my 4 and 7 year old children. They were able to keep up with the group. Ray was personable and very knowledgeable. The day we went it was raining so we didn't get a good view of the volcano. However, it was still a very lovely experience.
